Welcome to La Chèvrerie ! - English (short) version

La Chèvrerie is a 90-goats farm in the French region of Chautagne (Savoy), very close to the Rhône, which makes it a favorite stopover for travellers who wish to drive south to the Mediterranean without staying all the time on a boring highway (see the map).

Roger Chapotton and Jean-Pierre Savioz-Fouillet are taking care of the goats and hold a farm hostel, which is open (upon reservation) on Sunday lunch time and any day of the week for groups as of 10 people.

Every day at 5 pm, from March till November, the goats are being milked and you are most welcome to pop in and see how it goes. In the spring, about 60 kids are born, out of which a fair number will join the herd.

A figure says it all : 80% of the production of cheese is sold at the farm itself (the remaining 20% on local markets). You can watch under "Les Fromages" how the milk is actually transformed in goat cheese."Les visites" will show you some pictures of the animals and of the place.

At the restaurant, you will enjoy local dishes. 80% or more of the food (meat and vegetables) is produced on the farm - it's the law for farm hostels in France.

We also have a camping-car parking area. Please do not hesitate to contact us in English, French or German would you need any help and enjoy your visit on our website.
